Siddha is one of the oldest system of medicine: 6000 to 10000 years.
The correlation between the great works of the ShapthatRishis with modern allopathic medicines began only some 100 years ago. This work was started by Dr.Shaptharishi Mudaliar R.M.I.P (1865-1975) born to Raja Vaidya Muthusamy Mudaliar of Pudukkottai.

After his early basic education, he learnt the basic ideas about the traditional methods of Siddha through his father. For generations this family was preparing various siddha preparations using various herbs mixed with metals, minerals and other substances by diffrernt types of Kattus, using their ancestral Muppu and Jaineer processes. These methods were learnt from the hand written manuals and was passed from father to son for over 500 years.

Dr.Shaptharishi Mudaliar in collaboration with the then famous allopathic surgeon Dr. Rengachari, an eminent professional, practiced and integrated siddha and allopathic system. Dr.Shaptharishi Mudaliar also taught his four sons about their heredity siddha medicines.
His second sonDr.V.S.Subramanian, LIM studied and continued the work on
integrating allopathic and Siddha systems.

         (1915-1998)

Dr. V.S.Subramanian LIM (1915-1998), learned the complete system of siddha from his father. He had the opportunity to treat several leaders like Subash Chandra Bose, Rajaji, Kamaraj, Annaduari and many others leading personlity.

Dr. V.S.Subramanian, trained his twin sons, Dr.S.S. Manikandan and Dr.S.S.Iyyappan in their traditional preparations of Siddha medicines and clinical research in their home laboratory and at H.M. Hospital, chennai from 1985 on wards. with their newer formulations and application techniques they successfully treated killer diseases like cancers, Leukaemia, Psoriasis, Lekoderma, Brain Tumors and other diseases not curable by modern  medicien.

Dr.S.S. Manikandan M.D(A) born on 17th september 1964, was trained by his grand father. He was trained along with his twin brother, Dr.S.S.Iyyappan, in the manufacturing of their traditional Siddha medicines including the complicated navapashana and muppu drugs for 5 years from the early age of 6. Their father continued to train them in the preparations of medicine, teaching them clinical application and actual treatment of the patients till his demise in 1998.

Dr.S.S. Manikandan, obtained his diploma in pharmacy from the Madras Medical College in 1985. He obtained his M.D.(A) in 1995. He is a member with the Siddha Medical Academy. He was also the Vice President of Siddha Aids Research Committee of Tamil Nadu. Dr.S.S.Manikandan worked closely with leading doctors of modern medicine like: Dr.Jaisingh, Dr. H.M. Mehta, Dr. Muthurajan, Dr. Ramamurthy,and Dr.Thara Ramamurthy, in treating complex medical conditions of patients, where the patients had no hope of survival in Modern medicine.
